Composition
Blue Lace Agate is a striped Chalcedony and is a member of the Quartz family. It is typically banded in shades of mainly light blue, with brighter blue, whites, and sometimes brown ribbons of pigment. Agate is often named the "rainbow stone" since the concentric bands throughout nature sometimes incorporate virtually any color that the planet makes, even a transparent one. Blue lace agate is located in Africa having extraordinary toughness.
History
Agate has been found along with the Neolithic objects, and has been used in ancient medicinal amulets and artistic settings for thousands of years. The medical applications of the stone persisted for hundreds of years throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Agate's discovery ignited the development of a world-renowned stonecutting and polishing industry in Idar-Oberstein, Germany during the late 15th to early 19th centuries.
